The Maltese Cross with oak leaf wreath ring intersecting the outer third of each arm, and static (stationary, not standing on the point) swastika at the center, is in absolutely spectacular condition. Smooth edges are polished to a nice gleam –there is some light toning and a spot or two where the plating has flaked off on a corner – but hardly noticeable without a magnifying glass. The lightly pebbled inner arm surface and the flat parts of the oak leaves are frosted matte silver – while the edges of each leaf sparkle. The black enameled swastika is in great shape, still with much of its original protective lacquer coat intact. The reverse is equally impressive, with the inscription in Fraktur (gothic type) “Für treue Dienste” ("For Loyal / Faithful Service"). The award comes with a super crisp cornflower blue ribbon, which has a nice mounting pin at the top rear.
