Cross of Honor 1914-1918 for combatants with swords and ribbon.

Very nice example of one of the Third Reich’s first official awards, though instituted by Hindenburg when Hitler was still only the Chancellor. The award was one-sided (blank back) on this example has the crossed swords indicating the combatant version. The bronze finish has toned with age and differing conditions, to a variety of shades - from a slightly brassy (almost gilt) tone to a darker patina, even to a faintly coppery hue. The reverse is a more even, toned but still yellowish-brass tone. The award has a nice ribbon through the suspension loop. The central red stripe on the ribbon has faded slightly to a somewhat pinker tone. The ribbon top is not sewn together. Nice, very representative example of the Cross of Honor with Swords.
